Purpose
The Integrated IR residency blossomed in 2016 with a 100% Match fill rate. Diagnostic Radiology (DR) residency programs also showed improved 2016 Match success with slowing of prior struggles to fill spots (54 unfilled compared to 152 in 2015); yet, these values remain out of alignment compared to the former Match years. Prior to 2016, most IR interested applicants completed a DR residency and subsequently Matched into an IR fellowship (IRf). We sought to determine if any correlations existed among DR residency programs with IR fellowships (DRwIR) compared to DR residencies without IR (DRwoIR) in regard to recent past observed Match fill rates.

Materials & Methods
Both DR and IRf participate in the NRMP Match, and statistical data is published annually. As IRf data from the 2016 Match was unavailable, review of data spanning 2010 to 2015 allowed association analysis between (DRwIR) and (DRwoIR). We employed Mantel-Haenszel methods to assess the association between DRwIR and DRwoIR while adjusting for year. Additionally, we assessed the appropriateness of a common measure of association using Zelen's test of homogeneity of odds ratios.

Results
A reduction in unfilled IRf Match spots (66 → 4) was seen from 2010 to 2015; opposed to an increase in unfilled DR spots (6 → 152). From 2010 to 2015, respective average fill rate percentages for DRwIR and DRwoIR were 87.7% and 74.5%. DR's average fill rate was 98.3% during 2000 to 2009. Furthermore, DRwIR had 2.7 times the odds of filling their Match spots than DRwoIR.

Conclusions
Observational trends of recent NRMP Match data suggest a positive association between the presence of an IR fellowship and its accompanying DR residency program, as a successful Match process was shown to be about 3 times more likely to occur than DRwoIR. Further investigation is warranted as this correlation is likely not the sole cause of the observed Match findings.
